Campaign Highlights

A dynamic group of community leaders came together to launch Equity Action's Million Dollar Challenge Campaign on May 2, 2008 at the Aldermen's Chambers in Providence City Hall.

Providence Mayor David Cicilline and Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Roberts, honorary chair and campaign committee member, respectively, spoke about the importance of this initiative and their commitment to the Million Dollar Challenge.

Residential Properties President Sally Lapides, chair of the campaign, passionately told the crowd, "I will absolutely not be able to put my head down on the pillow until we are all treated equally, we are all recognized for our diversity and people judge us by the quality of who we are inside, not what we look like, who we pray to, who we love."

She concluded her remarks with a $10,000 pledge, indicating she sees Equity Action as addressing an important civil rights issue and that she will work diligently with the Campaign Committee to raise $500,000 over the next three years, which The Rhode Island Foundation will match. A gift of $8,500 from the Triangle Foundation also was announced by one of its founding members, Arthur Richter.
